Nargis Dutt made her first film appearance as a child actor at age 5 in 1935, in a film called Talash-e-Haq. She made her debut in 1943 film Taqdeer, aged 14, opposite Motilal. Nargis did around 51 films including the epic classics like Mother India (1957), Barsaat, Shree 420 (1955), Andaz (1949), Awara (1951), and Raat Aur Din (1967). In 1968, Nargis won the National Film Award for her role in Raat Aur Din.

Whatever Nargis did became a cult of sorts, a lot of which were re-created time and again to either pay tribute or to just add something ‘Filmy’. Here are some lines, dialogues, scenes which became a cult.

Mother India: The Iconic pose: Nargis struck the pose with the iconic farm plough, which became Iconic and timeless. Actors like Rekha and Vidya Balan also posed in the same manner as a sign if tribute.

The dialogue:
“Mai ek aurat hoon, Main beta de sakti hoon, laaj nahi de sakti…”. It’s just a mere depiction of how strong a woman can be and the way Nargis delivered it just made us all just stumble.

‘The umbrella and Rain: Pyaar hua Ikraar hua’: If there will be certain symbols or signs to portray how Iconic Hindi Film Industry has been two people in the monsoons walking under one umbrella with barely any space in between through an almost empty road will definitely be one. This look has been repeated a lot of times in several different movies.

Songs which has huge impact on us even today:

‘Pyaar hua ikraar hua’: Love is beyond time and lasts forever, and it’s the same with this song.

‘Ichak Dana Bichak Dana daane upar daana ichak dana’: A song we must have heard from our Parents or grandparents still brings nostalgia.

‘Duniya mei hum aayn hai toh’: Whenever your boss asks you to work on Sundays. Nargis Dutt has made everything just so relatable.
