Netflix dropped Janhvi Kapoor   starrer Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl on 12th August. The movie is about the journey of a girl who has a dream to become a pilot. Set in the early ’80s when women were only expected to take care of the house and family, Janhvi tries to break the stereotype.

As soon as the movie released, the fans around the world went on to rate the movie on IMDB, a popular website for movies and series. On the website, the movie currently holds the rating of 4.6 out of 10 with around 5000 votes. Jahnvi Kapoor is facing backlash due to the ongoing nepotism debate and also because the movie is produced by filmmaker Karan Johar.

Internet trollers are not sparing the movie and have also started the hashtag #BoycottGunjanSaxena. Apart from this, the Indian Air Force has also complained to Censor board on the negative portrayal of certain characters in the movie.

In an interview with Mid-day, when Janhvi was asked about how she felt about the controversy and negativity, the film is facing despite all the efforts it took to create it, she said It’s funny that you mention that because I didn’t feel I was in the eye of the storm till you said it. Maybe I’m living in a bubble. I’m hopeful only, I don’t know whether I’m being naive or what but I do understand there’s a very powerful sentiment on social media, but I’m optimistic that once people see the film, they’ll like it. But Sharan still gets messages like ‘We are not going to let Gunjan Saxena have an IMDb rating of more than zero.”

The movie is directed by Sharan Sharma. The movie also stars Pankaj Tripathi and Angad Bedi.
