The scam of having fake social media followers came into light when Bollywood playback singer Bhumi Trivedi filed a complaint earlier this month on 11 July. In this complaint, it was revealed that celebrities are paying in dollars to get fake social media followers.
Now according to a report in Zee, Mumbai Police summoned actor and host Gaurav Kapur along with RJ Roshan Abbas.They were summoned after CEO of Chtrbox, Pranay Swaroop came under the radar of Mumbai Police Crime Branch in connection with fake social media followers case. Swaroop stated that he has around 30,000 clients to whom his company caters.
Mumbai Police called Pranay Swaroop for questioning under CrPC section 160. He did not show up and gave the reason of COVID-19 and being understaffed. He was supposed to hand over client list and company income of last four years. The Police also wants to know the rate of influencers has increased and how are the rates finalised.
Chtrbox is one of the leading social media influencers marketing company. Last year it was accused of leaking private data of as many as 49 million Instagram users.
Mumbai Police busted the scam of fake social media followers where Bollywood celebrities, sports personalities and big builders were guilty of paying for fake followers. Celebrities like Priyanka Chopra and Deepika Padukone were summoned but there is no development on that yet.
