India’s recent cross-border operation, codenamed Operation Sindoor, which targeted multiple terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), has drawn fierce criticism from several prominent Pakistani celebrities on social media.
While the Indian government has termed the precision strikes as “measured, focused, and non-escalatory,” voices from across the border have labelled the military action as “shameful” and “cowardly.”
Acclaimed actress Mahira Khan shared a tweet by author Fatima Bhutto which alleged that India had become “unhinged,” comparing its behaviour to that of Israel. Mahira added on Instagram: “Seriously cowardly!!! May Allah protect our country, may better sense prevail. Ameen.”
Hania Aamir also reacted emotionally, sharing a post criticising the celebration of civilian casualties and stating: “You don’t get to bomb innocent people and call it strategy. This is shameful. This is cowardly.”
Actor Fawad Khan took a more somber tone, offering condolences to those affected and urging people to “stop stoking the flames with rabble-rousing words.” He added, “May better sense prevail. InshaAllah. Pakistan Zindabad!”
Notably, these comments have surfaced amid reports that Instagram has geo-restricted the accounts of several Pakistani celebrities in India, following the Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 people, including one Nepali tourist.
Indian officials have defended the strikes, claiming that they avoided civilian infrastructure and Pakistani military facilities, with a focus only on eliminating terrorist networks. The Defence Ministry stated that at least 17 terrorists were neutralised, with over 60 others injured across key locations such as Kotli, Muzaffarabad, Muridke, Faisalabad, and Ahmadpur Sharqia.
