Balwinder Safri, a well-known Punjabi singer, died at the age of 63. Singer Guru Randhawa from Punjab confirmed Safri’s passing on Instagram, writing, “Sir, we will always appreciate your songs and the contribution you made to Punjabi music. Peace be with you. Balwinder Safri, sir, alvida.” He reportedly underwent heart surgery in April of this year, at which point he was hospitalised. Several musicians from the Punjabi music scene expressed their sincere sympathies on social media after hearing the tragic news. Diljit Dosanjh paid homage to the late singer on Twitter. He posted a photo of Safri with the words “Waheguru” and an emoji of folded hands.

The singer of “Tu Hoor Sonhiye,” as per the ANI, was hospitalised in Wolverhampton, UK’s New Cross Hospital in April 2022 due to cardiac problems. The musician underwent three bypass surgery, but after suffering brain damage, he fell into a coma. Safri spent 86 days in the hospital. Before being released and making progress toward recuperation; nonetheless, he was unable to recover and died on July 26.

Neeru Bajwa, a Punjabi actress, recalled the performer of “Par Linghade” and commented, “We were really happy when Balwinder Ji’s menu appeared in the window during the #beautifulbillo filming. He was really kind to greet us when he came up. Make no more of them in that manner. I appreciate all that you have given to the Punjabi music scene, Sir. #balwindersafri ji, you will live on in our hearts forever.”

Balwinder Safri’s passing is yet another significant loss for the Punjabi entertainment sector, following the untimely deaths of singer Sidhu Moose Wala and actor Deep Sidhu. Balwinder Safri, also known as the Bhangra star, was a Punjabi singer who lived in the UK and was well-known for songs like “O chan mere makhna,” “Pao Bhangra,” “Gal Sun Kuriye,” “Nachdinu,” and many more.
