Sanjay Leela Bhansali has made double announcements. While he is directing Gangubai Kathiawadi he also revealed the he is making Baiju Bawra. Ranbir Kapoor will be the lead role in this film. Sanjay also signed Alia Bhatt and Deepika Padukone for the movie.
Bhansali’s new project, is about the musician Baiju. In Mughal Emperor Akbar’s court, young musician Baiju challenges Tansen to a musical duel in order to avenge the death of his father, which he holds Tansen responsible for. Baiju Bawra is a story of four characters. While Ranbir has been already locked as the primary lead actor, Bhansali signed his current favourites Alia Bhatt and Deepika Padukone. Alia will be paired opposite Ranbir stepping into Meena Kumari’s shoes, while the other female lead, Deepika will play the role of Roopmati essayed by Kuldip Kaur in the 1952 drama.
Sanjay Leela Bhansali has narrated the script to the female actors and they have both liked their parts. Both the actors will be Ranbir’s romantic interests in the period saga and have shown a keen interest in the project. According to Pinkvilla, “The movie revolves around the characters of Baiju and Tansen and the conflict between the two. For Baiju’s character, Ranbir has almost been finalised. The paperwork is yet to be done but SLB has already discussed the film with the actor and he’s liked the script. For Tansen’s role, they need a much older actor and they are already in talks with two big superstars to come on board.”
