1. Soumitra Banerjee
He is a legendary Bengali actor. He passed away on November 15, 2020, due to losing a battle with COVID-19. Soumitra was a prolific actor whose career enthralled the audience for more than three generations. He is widely known for his collaboration with Satyajit Ray in as many as 14 films such as Apur Sansar, Charulata Ghare, Baire, Ashani Sanket, etc. Apart from being a talented actor, Soumitra was also a playwright, poet, painter, and theatre director. He has also received the Dadasaheb Phalke and Padma Bhushan awards.
2. Saroj Khan
She is the three-time National Award winner. The veteran Bollywood choreographer passed away due to cardiac arrest on July 3, 2020. She was known as masterji, shot to fame in the late 80s, after choreographing superhits such as ‘Nagina’ and ‘Hawaa Hawaai’ with Sridevi. She had also choreographed Madhuri Dixit in several iconic numbers including ‘Dhak Dhak’ which became a national rage. Saroj had last choreographed for “Tabaah Hogye”, featuring Madhuri from filmmaker Karan Johar’s production from ‘Jab we Met’.
3. Irfan Khan
Ifran Khan, a legendary actor lost the battle of cancer which caused him to death on April 29 2020. He had made his mark in both international and Indian Cinema. The actor was the most recognised Asian actor in world cinema. He had also won the best actor National Award for his performance in 2021’s biographical drama ‘Paan Singh Tomar’. Irfan was also globally famous for his film ‘Life of Pi’.
4. Rishi Kapoor
Rishi Kapoor had lost his life in a two-year-long battle with leukaemia on 30th April in Mumbai. He had received the National Award in the film ‘Mera Naam Joker’ in 1970. He had acted in over 90 films. He made his debut as an adult actor in Bobby which became a blockbuster.
5. Chadwick Boseman
The ‘Black Panther’ star Chadwick Boseman passed away after a four-year-long battle with colon cancer on August 26 2020. He was popularly known for his dialogue ‘Wakanda Forever’. He had completed one last performance in an adaption of August Wilson’s ‘Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom’. The Netflix film, which reunited Boseman with his ‘Get On Up’ co-star, Viola Davis, was shot last summer.
6. Sean Connery
This legendary actor is best known for essaying the iconic character of James Bond. He died at the age of 90 on October 31 2020. He was knighted in 2000, won numerous awards during his decades-spanning career, including an Oscar, three Golden Globes and two Bafta Awards.
