Carrie Coon on her open marriage with Tracy Letts: ‘I can be truly honest’

Carrie Coon and Tracy Letts have built a marriage rooted in honesty, passion, and an undeniable connection. From their serendipitous first meeting on the set of Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? to an unexpected hospital wedding, their love story is anything but ordinary.

Carrie Coon and Tracy Letts’ love story is one of unexpected moments, deep connection, and a marriage built on honesty. The couple first crossed paths in 2010 while working on a production of Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, and the spark was immediate. Though both were in relationships at the time, their chemistry was undeniable.

“I almost ran into him in the doorway on the first day of rehearsal, and he said, ‘I’m really glad you’re here,’” Coon recalled in a past interview. “And that was it.”

Three years later, they tied the knot in what can only be described as a unique wedding experience. Letts had planned a simple courthouse ceremony, but fate had other plans. The night before, he was rushed to the hospital with severe pain and underwent emergency gallbladder surgery.

Determined to go through with their wedding, Coon found a Lutheran chaplain at the hospital who had never performed a wedding before—but stepped up for the occasion. The intimate hospital room ceremony turned out to be a memorable, meaningful moment for the couple.

Now, Coon is making waves with her role as Laurie in The White Lotus season three. However, she’s made it clear that Letts would have been far from comfortable on set. “Here’s the thing about Tracy: He’s allergic to the sun and he hates the ocean,” she joked in a recent interview. “So this was not the season for him.”

Despite their different preferences, their bond remains unwavering. As Coon puts it, “I’ve found a partner who I can be truly honest with.”
