The Mumbai crime branch has arrested a resident for blackmailing a Bollywood actor’s daughter with her private photographs. The 25-year-old man threatened her to pay him money or blackmailed that he will leak the pictures in the public domain.
According to Times of India, the person is identified as Qumail Hanif Patani. He lives in Malad, Mumbai. He was chased by the unit 11 of the crime branch and charged under many sections of the Indian Penal Code. He has been charged under the ITA (Information Technology Act.)
The accused man’s sister is known to study in the same college as the actor’s daughter. According to the complaint, she had received Direct Messages on Instagram and the accused claimed to know from before. He said they knew each other from college days and will leak her private images.
A senior inspector, Chimaji Adhav said “The accused sent the messages to the victim through social media and also immediately deleted them to erase his footprints. Qumail had threatened the actor’s daughter to make her pictures viral. He then called the girl and demanded extortion.”
She said she could only pay him Rs 15000-20000 but he demanded more money. She informed her parents who then filed a complaint in Bangue Nagar police station. The police tracked Patani from his residence on Thursday. They did it after laying a trap to catch him.
