Sahil Khan, an actor and influencer, has been detained by Mumbai police on suspicion of being involved in the Mahadev betting app controversy. The Mumbai cyber cell’s Special Investigating Team (SIT) in Chhattisgarh apprehended him after the Bombay High Court dismissed his application for pre-arrest bail.

Previously, the SIT summoned Sahil and three others for questioning in December 2023, but he did not show up. He claimed to be a brand promoter on contract with M/s. Isports247, promoting The Lion Book brand, but denied any direct association with the betting site.

However, the police said he was a co-owner of the app. He’s being transferred to Mumbai via Raipur. According to the police, he was a partner at Lotus App 247 and will be brought to court this afternoon.

Sahil claimed that his contract was for 24 months and included a monthly payment of Rs 3 lakh for sharing promotional videos on his social media platform.

Despite this, the judge dismissed his bail application, citing his direct involvement in the unlawful activities. Sahil, well known for his roles in Style and Excuse Me, has shifted his focus to fitness, establishing Divine Nutrition, which distributes training supplements.

Back in 2023, it was reported that the criminal branch, which was probing the Mahadev betting app case, summoned Sahil Khan and three others to testify on December 15.

However, Khan did not surrender to the police for questioning and continued to use social media during that period. He also posted a photo of himself sitting in a pool with the comment, “Good morning, Jumma Mubarak.” This gained attention and criticism because he appeared to ignore the police summons.

According to IANS, Sahil Khan, a fitness instructor and YouTuber, arranged celebrity meetups to promote the app and encourage more people to use it. The issue, which is being examined concurrently by the Enforcement Directorate (ED), has brought countless other Bollywood superstars into question following a crackdown on various betting and gaming initiatives by various authorities.
