Bihar IPS Officer Vinay Tiwari, who was forcibly quarantined by Mumbai Police has now been released by the BMC. Yes, you read it right. On 7th August, Mumbai’s Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) released him and asked him to return to Bihar. This comes after the case was handed to CBI. Bihar Police claims that the officer was rather under ‘house arrest’ than in quarantine.

As soon as Tiwari was released, Bihar police chief Gupteshwar Pandey took to Twitter and said, ”Following the remarks of the Hon’ble Supreme Court, Bihar Police Headquarters wrote a letter to the Commissioner of BMC yesterday requesting them to release IPS officer Vinay Tiwari. He is released today and will return to Patna this evening. Thanks to BMC.”

On 6th August, Pandey talked about taking legal actions against the BMC, if the IPS officer is not released. He was also baffled when he got no response from the the municipal authorities in Mumbai, whom he accused of keeping IPS officer Vinay Tiwari in virtual house arrest, even after Supreme Court told them to do so.

According to Bihar Police, Vinay Tiwari was not provided an accommodation. When he arranged a guest house for himself, that is when BMC officials took him for home quarantine.

IPS Officer Vinay Tiwari was supposed to head the investigation team for Sushant Singh Rajput case. The case was later handed to CBI on Wednesday. Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar recommended the CBI probe into the case after Sushant’s father KK Singh had a word with the state Director General of Police (DGP).
