In 2017 Telangana Excise and Prohibition Department registered 12 cases of Drug trafficking with the seize of drugs worth 30 lakhs. In the same case name of Tollywood biggies like Rana Daggubati, Rakul Preet Singh and Ravi Teja popped up four years ago. But due to lack of evidence against them, no charge sheet was filed and they were given clean chit. But it seems Telangana Excise and Prohibition Department has gathered but strong evidence as they recently summoned the actors to record their respective statements. Enforcement Directorate (ED) is not persistent in calling the actors guilty of trafficking but instead prefers them to be recognised as witnesses currently.
One of the ED officials of the case gave the statement, “Around 12 cases were booked by Telangana Excise and Prohibition department and 11 charge sheets were filled. Mostly drug traffickers, around eight persons were charge-sheeted in the cases then. Most of them are lower-level drug traffickers. We have called excise officials as witnesses. Likewise, till we get evidence, Tollywood celebrities will be considered witnesses. Likewise, till we get evidence, Tollywood celebrities will be considered as witnesses. Their names have figured in the investigation.”
As per the reports of Times Of India, Rakul Preet Singh has been called on 6th and 8th September and Ravi Teja on 9th September. Other names from the list of 12 include famous Tollywood director, Puri Jagannadh who is known for films like Pokiri, Temper. Other summoned names are Charmee Kaur, Navdeep, Mumaith Khan, Nandu, Tarun and Tanish. But still any confirmation has not come from the celebs regarding their involvement in the case.
