On August 23, at about 18:04 IST, ISRO reports that the Chandrayaan-3 will touch down on the moon. India will thus become the fourth nation in the world, following the US, Russia, and China, to accomplish this accomplishment. Not only that, but India will be the only nation on Earth to set foot on the lunar south pole. The Chandrayaan-3 mission has three main goals: it will demonstrate a gentle and safe landing on the moon, it will display a rover wandering the moon, and it will carry out in-situ scientific research.
Raj, who has made his mark in films such as Kanchivaram, Singham and Wanted, contested as an independent candidate for Bengaluru Central Lok Sabha constituency during the 2019 general elections and lost.
According to police on Tuesday, actor Prakash Raj has been booked at a police station in the Bagalkot region of Karnataka for making fun of the Indian Space Research Organization’s (ISRO) ambitious Chandrayaan-3 third lunar mission on social media. Prakash tweeted a cartoon of a man pouring tea while wearing a vest and lungi, referring to it as the “first picture coming from the Moon”—a subtle jab at Chandrayaan 3 mission’s Vikram Lander—as the spacecraft is making history by landing on the Moon’s south pole. A complaint has now been made over the same.

In his tweet, the veteran actor shared the cartoon and wrote, “BREAKING NEWS:- First picture coming from the Moon by #VikramLander Wowww #justasking.” The post prompted criticism from users who found his remark derogatory with people saying that the Chandrayaan-3 mission is linked to the country’s pride.

“The problem with Hate is, once you start hating someone then eventually your hate becomes so strong that you start hating everyone. You forgot the difference between the person, ideology and national achievement. Everything looks the same! Sad to see a talented actor behaving like this!” commented comedian Appurv Gupta. Clarifying that Chandrayaan 3 is an ISRO mission, and not associated with any political party, another user wrote, “Prakash ji, this Chandryan mission is from ISRO not BJP. If it gets succeed, it’s for India not for any party. Why you want this mission to fail? BJP is just a ruling party. It will go one day. But, ISRO will remain for years and will make us proud. In search of truth, you’re forgetting basic nationalism. India’s failure shouldn’t be a victory. Keep ISRO aside from this political hate.”
Prakash Raj found himself in deep trouble after posting a controversial photo mocking the Indian Moon Mission. Following the backlash, ‘Arrest Prakash Raj’ has been trending on X (formerly Twitter). Users have been demanding the arrest of the actor for taking a swipe at India’s Moon Mission.
This post led to a barrage of criticism from netizens who viewed it as a mockery of India’s scientific endeavors.
