After 29 years of marriage, music composer AR Rahman and his wife Saira Banu announced their separation on Tuesday evening. Coincidentally, it was for the same day for Rahman’s female bassist, Mohini Dey, to reveal her divorce. After the two events were reported, Rahman and Saira’s representatives were quick to get ridicule of any connection between them.
In a conversation with Republic TV, lawyer Vandana Shah said, “There is no connection at all. Saira and Mr. Rahman made this decision on their own.” Rahman and Saira announced their separation on Tuesday evening, citing it down to “significant emotional strain in their relationship.”
Mohini Biswas, 29-year-old, a bass player from Kolkata, known for Wind of Change, Gaan Bangla. She has had the privilege to sing with Rahman in more than forty main shows, all over the world. She took to her Instagram on Tuesday and confirmed via a lengthy post that she had separated from her musician husband – Mark Hartsuch.
In her conversation with Republic TV, the lawyer mentioned that Rahman and Saira have not yet discussed the financial matters. She explained that the divorce was amicable and both parties are extremely genuine.
Rahman and Saira tied the knot in 1995 and are parents to three kids – daughters Khatija and Raheema, and son AR Rameen.
