Oscar winning music composer AR Rahman and his wife Saira Banu has announced their separation after 29 years of marriage. Saira issued an official statement through her lawyer while Rahman, on the other hand, broke the heartbreaking news through his Twitter account. Later, Rahman’s statement read, “We had hoped to reach the grand thirty, but all things, it seems, carry an unseen end. Even the throne of God might tremble at the weight of broken hearts. Yet, in this shattering, we seek meaning, though the pieces may not find their place again. To our friends, thank you for your kindness and for respecting our privacy as we walk through this fragile chapter. #arrsairaabreakup.”
Separately, Rahman shared a statement on X (formerly known as Twitter) thanking fans for their support in a long and complicated divorce. Some fans supported the couple during the separation, while others trolled him, saying it’s silly that he announced the separation by using the hash tag ‘#arrsairaabreakup’.
Rahman’s emotional statement was well received, however, netizens thought he didn’t need to have a hashtag while requesting privacy.
One of the comments under his post read, “Who creates hashtag for this situation? Fire your admin, thalaiva,” while another user wrote, “Why a hashtag after this ? Are you out of your mind.”
