Apurva Asrani bashes Soni Razdan, ‘Unfair to diagnose Sushant’s depression on Twitter’

Filmmaker Apurva Asrani took to social media to express himself on the debate over Sushant Singh Rajput’s death. Unbeknown to him that the tweet will turn out to ignite a long debate with Alia Bhatt’s mother Soni Razdan and he will end up schooling her on the concept of depression.

According to the reports, it was depression that pushed Sushant Singh Rajput to the edge and which resulted in him taking a drastic step of ending his life on June 14 in his Bandra residence. The world, however, is digging out a lot of other theories that they believe played a part in degrading Sushant’s mental health. The practice of nepotism that allegedly results in getting ill-treatment by certain big guns of the industry was on the top. Voicing his concern related to the same, filmmaker Apurva Asrani tweeted out from his social media handle and stated how some other aspects contributed to Sushant Singh Rajput’s depression.

In response to Asarani’s tweet on KRK and blind items, Alia Bhatt’s mother Soni Razdan tried to bring into light how people are not giving enough importance to depression and mental health. Soni Razdan commented, “What’s really bothering me in all this is the fact that the real issue – depression and mental illness – is now obfuscated by sound and fury. The point being that depression does not need a reason to engulf a person. It comes unbidden to the successful, the rich as much as anyone else. Think Robin Williams Kate Spade Anthony Bourdain and countless others. When you talk around the main issue you do a great disservice to all those who may be also suffering and think it’s due to external circumstances when in fact it’s due to an internal one that the person suffering cannot control.”

Asrani while disagreeing with Soni, schooled the veteran actress for diagnosing the late actor’s depression on Twitter. He retweeted, “Untrue ma’am. Depression can be triggered by environmental factors like social isolation & a stressful workplace too. Unfair to diagnose Sushant’s depression on twitter. But we do know of a campaign to label him a rapist, unprofessional & a write off. It shouldn’t be covered up.”

This battle of tweets went on for some time, both the filmmaker and veteran actress expressed their views on the issue firmly.
