Anurag Kashyap has made shocking revelations of his plans of moving out of Mumbai, and cited his growing discontent with the Hindi film industry. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter India, the filmmaker expressed frustration with what he described as “stifling” environment created by the industry current practices and mindsets.

“I’m moving out of Mumbai,” Anurag stated emphatically, and explained that his dissatisfaction comes from the rise in the cost of filmmaking and the shift of focus to profitability rather than creativity. He added that the high cost has made it difficult for him to go out and experiment. Anurag said that making a film is now all about how to sell it, which has sucked out the joy of filmmaking.

The Gangs of Wasseypur director revealed his intention of moving to South, where he believes is more creative stimulation. “I want to go where there is stimulation. Otherwise, I will die as an old man. I am so disappointed and disgusted by my own industry,” he shared.
