‘Grahan’ actor Anshumaan Pushkar talked about the controversy of his show ‘Grahan.’ The series faced tensions ahead of its release. ‘Grahan’ is based on the 1984 Sikh riots.

According to a recent report by Hindustan Times, the actor has revealed that he and the makers had received death threats. He said, “I’ve always maintained that audience should first watch and then decide. I used to get many threat messages as well along with the creators, but now those very people are like, ‘Sorry bhai , humne galat samjha tha’. They are apologising. So many people just raise objections as a publicity stunt and nothing else,” via Hindustan Times.

The actor also expressed his concern about how many digital series including Tandav and The Family Man 2 has been involved in controversies. He believes that people have the right to show stories inspired by real-life events and it’s not right to restrict that freedom. He maintained that the industry is trying to narrate real-life stories while they make sure they don’t hurt anybody’s “sentiments — religious or otherwise”. He also explained that they want the audience to like the content but “pleasing everyone is not possible while making real-life based stories because if it’s liked by all then you haven’t made it well,” via Hindustan Times.

He also shared how many brutal incidents were not made a part of the series and the ones included in the making were only added to “represent what had happened”

He added, “Some people were misusing the creative freedom on OTT. They turned it into a soft-porn space initially, be it with unnecessary sexual content or extremely abusive language. You can’t use such tools for titillation and expect that there won’t be consequences. I’m not in favour of censorship but regulation is necessary,” via Hindustan Times.
