Anna Hathaway has remarked Christopher Nolan as an “angel” for offering her role in his 2014 sci-fi thriller Interstellar after her Oscar win, despite of her online image had turned toxic at that time.
In an interview with Vanity Fair, the actress reflected on her acting career, including some its rougher moments. She noticed work dried up after she co-hosted the Oscars in 2013 and took home the honor of best supporting actress of Les Miserables as studios became concerned about the vitriolic comments online.
Anna shared that a lot of people had stopped giving her roles as they were concerned of her online reputation being toxic. She added, “I had an angel in Christopher Nolan, who did not care about that and gave me one of the most beautiful roles I’ve had in one of the best films that I’ve been a part of it.”
The infamous “Hathahate” phenomenon caused the actress’ public image to crumble. Unfortunately for Hathaway, the increased exposure led to increased scrutiny, but Christopher, who has worked with her in movies such as The Dark Knight Rises, roped her in alongside Matthew McConaughey, which may have been the role that ultimately saved her.
