Kelly Preston, an actress who appeared in more than sixty television and film productions, died on Sunday at the age of 57. Her husband, John Travolta, shared a picture of her on his Instagram handle. They were married for 28 years and Kelly had been battling with breast cancer for two years.
In Travolta’s post, he wrote, “It is with a very heavy heart that I inform you that my beautiful wife Kelly has lost her two-year battle with breast cancer. She fought a courageous fight with the love and support of so many.” He further wrote, “My family and I will forever be grateful to her doctors and nurses at MD Anderson Cancer Center, all the medical centers that have helped, as well as her many friends and loved ones who have been by her side. Kelly’s love and life will always be remembered.” The couple had three children together; Jett, Ella Bleu and Benjamin.
Preston was born on 13 October 1962 in Honolulu. Although she had appeared in the film ‘Space Camp’ which was released in the year 1986, she had a breakthrough as Arnold Schwarzenegger’s love interest in ‘Twins’, in the year 1988. She came more into the limelight, after playing the role of hardhearted fiancee of Tom Cruise, in the 1996 movie ‘Jerry Maguire’. While working on the film ‘The Experts’ Kelly met John Travolta. This was around the year 1988. They last starred together in the 2018 film ‘Gotti’, with Travolta playing John Gotti and Preston playing the crime boss’s wife, Victoria. The couple got married in the year 1991. Their first son, Jett Travolta, died at the age of 16 after a seizure at the family’s vacation home in the Bahamas.
Preston had a long acting career in movies and television, starring opposite Kevin Costner in the 1999 film ‘For the Love of the Game’. In 2003, she starred in ‘What a Girl Wants’ and as the mom in the live-action adaptation of ‘The Cat in the Hat’. The following year she appeared in the music video for Maroon 5′s ‘She Will Be Loved’.
John Travolta concluded his Instagram post by saying, “I will be taking some time to be there for my children who have lost their mother, so forgive me in advance if you don’t hear from us for a while. But please know that I will feel your outpouring of love in the weeks and months ahead as we heal. All my love, JT.”
