Abhijeet Bhattarcharya gets legal notice for “Mahatma Gandhi is father of Pakistan” comment

Singer Abhijeet Bhattarcharya has been surrounded with controversies and has yet again made headlines for the same reason. In an interview, the singer discussed Mahatma Gandhi and addressed him as ‘Father of Pakistan’. He also claimed that Gandhi was ‘mistakenly’ called ‘Father of India’ and he even tried to justify his comments by adding that he was responsible for Pakistan’s existence.

During an interview with Free Press Journal, Abhijeet compared Gandhi with music composer RD Burman and said, “Music composer RD Burman was bigger than Mahatma Gandhi. Like Mahatma Gandhi was the father of the nation, RD Burman was the father of the nation in the world of music.” He added, “Mahatma Gandhi was the father of the nation for Pakistan and not India. India already existed… He was the one responsible for the existence of Pakistan.”

Within no time, the statement did not go down well with a Pune based lawyer, Asim Sarode, who has sent a legal notice to Abhijeet and asked for his apology. The lawyer has demanded a written apology and threatened to initiate criminal prosecution against him.

The legal notice read, “To accept partition, it will be over my dead body. So long as I am alive, I will never agree to the partition of India” and also mentioned that Gandhi worked tirelessly for Hindu-Muslim unity and also promoted the ideals of brotherhood.
