Aamir Khan, who is celebrating three decades of his glorious career, on Sunday, revealed how he was first offered Yash Chopra’s Darr, before the role ultimately went to Shah Rukh Khan.
While speaking at the launch of film festival, Aamir Khan: Cinema Ka Jadugar, the superstar shared, “I was going to do Darr, but then I opted out of it for other reasons. It is very well made. Shah Rukh Khan was perfectly suited for the role. The soul Yash ji was trying to put in the film through me…If I was doing it, it would have gone wrong. I don’t regret not doing it.”
He also added that even Bajrangi Bhaijaan’s script was brought to him. However, he suggested the director to approach Salman Khan, who later went on to star in it.
The launch of film festival, which was to honor the Dangal star for his contribution to Indian cinema, was also attended by Javed Akhtar, who praised the actor for his talent and stated, “Aamir’s magic is that he puts his money on unconventional films. I asked him not to do Lagaan. Tried convincing him a lot. Made a list of what all could go wrong. He made a list and made a script with all those things.”
As it turned out, Darr marked a pivotal moment in SRK’s career, as it earned him accolades for his credible turn as an antagonist. The movie also featured Juhi Chawla and Sunny Deol.
