Punjabi cinema, sometimes metonymously referred to as Pollywood, is the Punjabi language film industry centred around the state of Punjab in India. Mainly based in Amritsar and Mohali. The cinema of Punjab has its beginnings with the 1928 production of Daughters of Today, the earliest feature film produced in Punjab. The first sound film, Heer Ranjha, using the sound-on-disc technology, was released in 1932.

2. Eh Janam Tumhare Lekhe
It is on the life of Pooran Singh and It is based on a true story.
3. Anne Ghode da Daan
It is based on his eponymous award-winning book by Gurdial Singh. It is a serious and hard-hitting book/movie depicting the caste-based social and economic divisions in the Punjab, especially the Malwa region.
4. Ardas
This is a new one and hopefully you will be able to catch it in the theatres. Though it is of no specific time period, but the problems and the scenarios shown are ever-present. I loved the movie for its positive message and practical Gurbani quotations.
5. Punjab 1984
A laudable take to depict the militancy issue in Punjab and its impact on the life of a layman. Kudos to the writer for doing justice to both sides of the struggle.

By far, my most favourite Pollywood actor. Jaswinder Bhalla is just amazing. His comic performances are just mind-blowing. He absolutely steals the show in any movie he’s in. Fabulous actor!
2. Diljit Dosanjh
A veritable kaleidoscope of talent, our Diljit. One of the best singers out there, and also an excellent actor.
3. Gurpreet Ghuggi
Another favorite actor of many. I just love the wry way in which Gurpreet Ghuggi says his dialogues. His facial expressions are brilliant too – a master in comedy.
4. Binnu Dhillon
Another fabulous actor. Binnu is a very versatile actor as well – he started off with villainish roles, and then eventually got to where he is today.
5. Gippy Grewal
He mostly does Pollywood movies though – his couple of Bollywood ventures didn’t quite make it. He is good though – does competently well in all his movies, and in all kinds of roles.
