Apoorva Mukhija, a popular digital star and content creator, was spotted avoiding cameras and questions as she appeared before the Mumbai police on Wednesday, amidst a raging controversy surrounding her alleged involvement in a scandalous episode of the show India’s Got Latent.
What happened
The controversy surrounding India’s Got Latent has taken a fresh turn, with the National Commission for Women (NCW) taking strong note of the derogatory comments made by Ranveer Allahbadia and others on the show. The Mumbai police visited the YouTuber’s residence on Tuesday, and on Wednesday, Apoorva Mukhija recorded her statement at the Khar police station in Mumbai.
Apoorva was spotted exiting the police station, surrounded by reporters who questioned her about the case. However, she refrained from making any comment on the matter. A complaint has been filed against Ranveer Allahabadia, Apoorva Makhija, comedian Samay Raina, and the organizers of the show India’s Got Latent for allegedly using abusive and vulgar language on the show.
More about the issue
Ranveer Allahbadia has since apologized for his comments, saying, “I shouldn’t have said what I said on India’s got latent. I’m sorry. My comment wasn’t just inappropriate, it wasn’t even funny. Comedy is not my forte. I am just here to say sorry.” He also acknowledged that he had a lapse in judgment and did not want to disrespect families.
The NCW has asked Ranveer Allahbadia, Apoorva Makhija, Ashish Chanchlani, Jaspreet Singh, and Samay Raina to appear in person before the commission on February 17. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has also weighed in on the issue, saying, “Everyone has freedom of speech but our freedom ends when we encroach upon the freedom of others.”
Singer B Praak has also slammed Ranveer Allahbadia for his comments, saying, “Ye hamara Indian culture nahi hai. Ye hamara culture hi nahi hai. Aap apne parents ke kaun si story bata rahe ho? Aap uski kaun si baatein kar rahe ho? Ye comedy hai? This is not at all comedy.”
