After more than a decade after its 2014 run, the most loved fantasy anime Yona of the Dawn (Akatsuki no Yona) has finally received the green light for a sequel. The official announcement, which coincided with the end of Mizuho Kusanagi’s 16-year manga run, was made in late 2025 in the pages of Hana to Yume. Fans will be drawn further into Princess Yona’s epic voyage of self-discovery, political intrigue, and the assembly of the fabled Four Dragon Warriors in the volatile kingdom of Kouka in the upcoming season, which promises to continue where the original 24-episode series left off.

Here’s the latest summary of everything we know so far about Yona of the Dawn Season 2.

Yona of the Dawn Season 2 Release Date Speculations

Yona of the Dawn (Akatsuki no Yona) Season 2 has been officially announced as a sequel anime and is presently in development, marking a long-awaited comeback more than a decade after the first season aired in 2014–2015. The second 2026 edition of Hana to Yume magazine, which was published on December 19, 2025, coincided with the release of the manga’s last chapter following its 16-year run by author Mizuho Kusanagi.

As of yet, no official release date, teaser, key visual, or broadcast window has been released. Additionally, no information about the crew roster, animation studio, or production committee has been made public. The project is still in the early stages of production, according to trade reports and anime industry publications, so near-term scheduling is doubtful. Industry observers predict that additional updates may be released in 2026, with a possible premiere window in late 2026 or 2027, based on typical anime sequel timeframes, especially for adaptations of long-form manga. But unless the publishers or producers acknowledge it, this is all conjecture.

Yona of the Dawn Season 2 Expected Cast

No casting announcements have been officially made for Season 2. However, these kinds of anime sequels usually keep their primary voice cast, particularly for long-running and character-driven series.

In the first season, Monica Rial and Christopher Sabat provided the English dubbing for Chiwa Saitō’s Yona and Tomoaki Maeno’s Hak. Yoon. The Four Dragon Warriors—Kija, Shin-ah, Jae-ha, and Zeno—as well as Su-won had important supporting roles. Despite the widespread expectation among fans that the main cast will return, no confirmations have been released, and casting specifics are still unknown.

Yona of the Dawn Season 2 Potential Plot

It is expected that Season 2 will pick up where the previous season left off, essentially adapting the first part of the manga up to the Four Dragon Warriors’ first meeting and the Awa arc. Now that the manga is finished, with 46 main volumes and supplementary material, the sequel anime features a much more comprehensive storyline.

If the upcoming season faithfully adheres to the original material, it will probably examine more complex political disputes within the Kouka Kingdom, massive fights, changing tribal alliances, and Yona’s ongoing transformation from a sheltered princess into a powerful leader. The Long-running storylines regarding Hak and Yona’s relationship, Su-won’s ideological path, the historical legacy of King Hiryuu and the dragons are all set to take center stage. Now that the manga is finished, many fans are optimistic that this sequel will eventually result in a more comprehensive adaptation of the plot than was previously feasible.

The season 1 of Yona of the Dawn is presently available for streaming on Crunchyroll, while the manga is also dubbed in english and officially licensed by Viz Media.
