In a significant development, the Nampally court has granted relief to Telugu actor Allu Arjun, who was accused in the Sandhya Theatre stampede case. The court has relaxed some of his bail terms, exempting him from appearing at the Chikkadapally police station every Sunday.
A Major Relief for the Actor
Arjun’s counsel had requested an exemption from the Sunday appearance requirement, citing security concerns. The court has also granted him permission to travel abroad. This comes as a major relief to the actor, who was scheduled to appear at the police station just a day later. Arjun has already appeared before the police once since the ruling.
The actor was taken into custody by the police from his Jubilee Hills residence on December 13 and was later granted a 4-week interim bail by the High Court. He was released from Chanchalaguda Central Jail on December 14. However, the Telangana CM Revanth Reddy and the Telangana police had criticised the actor for his alleged role in the stampede.
The Stampede Incident
The incident occurred on December 4, when Arjun attended the premiere of his film Pushpa 2: The Rule at Sandhya Theatre in RTC X Roads, Hyderabad. The actor’s visit caused fans to surge forward, resulting in the death of a woman and the hospitalisation of her young son in critical condition. The police arrested Arjun, the theatre management, and a few security members based on a complaint filed by the victim’s family.
The court has directed that the producers of the film, Mythri Movie Makers’ Ravi Shankar and Naveen Yerneni, will not be taken into custody during the investigation. Arjun was granted regular bail on January 3 against two ₹50,000 sureties, with the condition that he would appear at the police station every Sunday and not leave the country. With the latest development, the actor has been exempted from the Sunday appearance requirement, bringing him significant relief in the ongoing case.
