The cyclone ‘ Biparjoy ‘ that formed over the east central Arabian sea, has already created havoc in the coastal states. According to the IMD, the cyclone is expected to cross near Gujarat’s Jakhau Port on 15th June i.e Thursday. Other than that, states like Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh are expected to witness thunderstorms. A number of trains have already been cancelled in some states.

Along with calamities like cyclones, follows destruction and loss of lives. One cannot just sit idle without taking precautions beforehand. The government is responsible for taking measures and providing aid, during such times of disasters. And hence, the government has taken up certain measures and made certain developments so far, to keep the people away from being affected by the cyclone. 

NDRF teams are on alert in Gujarat. According to the sources, two teams have been moved to Rajkot, other two have been moved to Gandhidham and Bhuj, and one has been moved to Devbhoomi Dwarka.

According to Shivaji Sutar, the Director of Information and Publication, Railway Board, Delhi, the disaster management room is now activated and field staff are put on alert. Emergency control rooms as well as helpline numbers have been activated in Ahmedabad, Rajkot, Bhavnagar and Gandhidham.

Union Power Minister, R.K Singh reviewed the preparation for power supply and restoration arrangements for coastal areas in Gujarat and Rajasthan against the cyclone.

Daman imposed Section 144 of CrPc on Wednesday, restricting the movement of people on beaches and near coasts.

Ships, relief teams along with helicopters have been prepared for the assistance in Gujarat. 50,000 people have been shifted from the coastal regions of Gujarat as precaution, with disaster management units being prepared for relief and rescue of people. Gujarat CM, Bhupendra Patel, tweeted about a high level meeting being held at the State Emergency Operation Center to review operations and planning against the cyclone.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD), On 14th June, issued a press release stating the forecast track and intensity of the cyclone. It further gave heavy rainfall warnings at places like Kutch, Devbhoomi Dwarka, Porbandar , Rajkot and Morbi districts of Saurashtra and Kutch. The press release also had wind warning for the coastal areas as well as for South Rajasthan. The damage expected over Kutch, Devbhoomi Dwarka, Porbandar , Morbi, Junagarh and Rajkot districts of Gujarat have been predicted. Along with these, warnings have been issued for fishermen along with actions that have been suggested for the affected areas along with for offshore and onshore industries.

The system under IMD is under surveillance, and they will be issuing another message at 14:30 hours IST on 15th June.
