A recent update has come from MET Director, Manorama Mohanty on the cyclone “Biparjoy”. In Gujarat, the cyclone’s intensity has now decreased because of which Kutch might witness heavy rainfall. Dwarka, Jamnagar and Morbi are also on the possibility list of facing heavy to very heavy rainfall. It has been further stated that there may be heavy rains in many districts including Porbandar, and Rajkot. There is also a possibility of extremely heavy rainfalls in Kutch, Patan, Mehsana, and Banaskantha tomorrow
The cyclone has till now created havoc in the whole Gujarat coast. From damaging property, to uprooting the trees, the cyclone quite left its mark on Gujarat. The cyclone damaged almost 5,120 electricity poles and left 1000 villages without power. The Paschim Gujarat Vij Company Ltd. (PGVCL) is currently working for the restoration of power in the rural areas as soon as possible. Two people died before landfall. However, there were no casualties after that. Animals reportedly have died and some people were injured. The intensity of the cyclone reportedly weakened after moving towards the North. The IMD on it’s recent tweet stated, ” SCS BIPARJOY weakened into CS at 0830IST of today and lay near lat 23.4N and long 69.5E, about 30km WNW of Bhuj, likely to weaken further into a deep depression over Saurashtra & Kutch around evening of today.”
The IMD has issued an ‘orange alert‘ on parts of Rajasthan like Barmer, Jalore, Jaisalmer, Sirohi, Jodhpur, Pali and other nearby places.
The rescue teams and relief teams are still on alert and people are being shifted to safer locations. More updates are yet to come.
