PowerBuild Batteries Private Limited, a subsidiary of Time Technoplast, has achieved a significant milestone by receiving certification from the Central Power Research Institute (CPRI) for its OPzS stationary batteries. These batteries, also known as tubular batteries, are housed in transparent SAN (Styrene Acrylonitrile) containers. The certification was granted under the standard IS 1651:2013, covering the company’s 2V OPzS battery variants with capacities of 10Ah, 20Ah, and 300Ah.
OPzS/TBS batteries are designed for long service life and continuous float performance, making them ideal for infrastructure-grade applications. The transparent SAN containers allow for easy visual inspection, while the tubular plate design ensures durability and stable operations. These batteries are increasingly being adopted across the power utility sector, including generation and transmission facilities, thermal, nuclear, and hydroelectric plants, offshore oil rigs, petrochemical complexes, and substations, where uninterrupted DC backup power, long service life, and high reliability under demanding load conditions are essential.
The demand for batteries in India’s power generation sector is estimated to be between ₹3,000 crore and ₹4,000 crore, according to internal estimates. The OPzS/TBS segment is gaining traction within this market, driven by utility demand and replacement cycles. After over six months of rigorous testing, PowerBuild is now among a select group of Indian manufacturers producing OPzS/TBS batteries in transparent SAN containers for utility-grade applications.
The CPRI certification under IS 1651:2013 is a key requirement for utility and EPC tenders, enhancing the company’s ability to participate in institutional procurement and strengthening its stationary battery portfolio. The existing plant and machinery are sufficient to manufacture these OPzS/TBS batteries, eliminating the need for additional capital expenditure. Production with current facilities is expected to improve overall capacity utilisation and enhance EBITDA margins.
