Tata Technologies Ltd., a global engineering and product development digital services company, announced on August 21 that it has become a premium partner in AUTOSAR, a global development alliance of automakers, suppliers, and other businesses.

Worldwide, AUTOSAR has more than 280 partners, including Peugeot Citroen Automobiles S.A., Continental AG, BMW, Volkswagen, Toyota Motor Corporation, Ford, GM, DaimlerChrysler, PSA, Toyota, Bosch, and Siemens.

“This partnership further strengthens our commitment to the automotive industry and enables us to work more closely with the other members to develop and implement open standards that aim to improve the efficiency of the development process, reduce costs and increase the overall quality of the vehicles,” Tata Technologies CEO Warren Harris said.

“With their vast experience in the automotive domain and expertise in both AUTOSAR Platforms, Tata Technologies will be contributing towards the development of new concepts and standards across these platforms,” AUTOSAR Chairperson Thomas Rüping said.

According to a statement from Tata Technologies, it seeks to standardise the software architecture of vehicle electronic control units (ECUs) to increase the overall effectiveness of automotive system software development and integration.

Tata Technologies stated that through this relationship, it hopes to work with AUTOSAR to establish new standards and software architecture for future automotive systems. It also plans to promote and facilitate the adoption of AUTOSAR standards around the world.

The rapid development of software defined vehicles (SDVs) has increased the functionality and architectural complexity of automotive software, increasing the costs and length of development for car makers, it was said.
