A power purchase agreement (PPA) for a 9MWp on-campus solar project with Tata Motors’ Pantnagar facility in Uttarakhand was signed by Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL), a Tata Power subsidiary, the firm announced in a statement.
According to the statement, this solar farm will be the biggest on-campus solar facility in the state.
Tata Motors’ sustainable future goals are effectively addressed by the solar system, which is expected to reduce carbon emissions in Uttarakhand by 25 tonnes CO2/kWp. The project will be put into operation six months after the PPA’s execution. The solar installation will be installed using ground-mounted units.
In a previous collaboration, TPREL and Tata Motors constructed a 7 MWp solar plant at the Pantnagar manufacturing complex with great success. The overall solar capacity of the Tata Motors Pantnagar factory is currently an outstanding 16 MWp. The solar power plants will produce 224 lakh units annually, or around 60% of their annualized demand.
“Tata Power Renewables is aiding India’s transition to renewable energy through our relationship with Tata Motors. Ashish Khanna, CEO of Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited, stated that the 9MWp solar power installation “resonates our commitment to fostering the widespread adoption of eco-friendly clean energy solutions across industries.”
To assist the RE100 objective of large corporations and the nation’s shift to clean energy, Tata Power and its subsidiaries are continuously creating renewable energy solutions. In order to address the needs of its C&I customers for clean energy, the firm is closely collaborating with them to create large-scale hybrid solutions, battery storage, and pumped hydro projects.
“In order to achieve our goal of net zero emissions, we are turning our business and operations and making sustainability a top priority. Our approach to decarbonize operations includes increasing the procurement and usage of renewable energy at all of our plants through a combination of onsite and offsite initiatives. Our Pantnagar facility will become greener and more productive with the addition of this solar power installation by Tata Power, according to Vishal Badshah, Vice President, Commercial Vehicle Operations, Tata Motors Limited.
As a RE100 signatory, we are dedicated to using only renewable energy in our operations, and we have made great strides in this direction by gradually increasing the amount of renewable energy. According to Srinath Sharma, Plant Head, Pantnagar, Tata Motors Limited, “We are happy to implement this solar project at our manufacturing facility which will further help us achieve our sustainability targets by reducing our reliance on fossil fuels while also helping to save on electricity costs.”
The entire capacity of TPREL’s renewable energy sources will be 7,783 MW, including 3,651 MW of projects that are in various phases of implementation. The company has a 4,132MW operational capacity, which includes 3,139MW of solar energy and 993MW.
