After 50 years as chairman of Rediffusion, Diwan Arun Nanda has resigned from his position. Sandeep Goyal will take over for Nanda, who resigned due to his advanced age and poor health.
Goyal has long been Nanda’s immediate assistant and will continue to serve in that capacity.
Nanda won the first gold medal of the 1966 IIM-A first batch. He was also included in Hindustan Lever’s inaugural class of management trainees.
As Rin detergent’s brand manager at Lever, he is credited with creating the “lightning strikes” mnemonic. Following MCM, a creative shop, Nanda established Rediffusion in 1973.
He served on the boards of Air India, Eveready, Kingfisher Airlines, Yes Bank, and other organisations. He was the two-time president of the AAAI and the early 2000s recipient of the lifetime achievement award.
Rajiv Gandhi’s former prime minister Nanda served as his counsellor from 1983 to 1991. In addition, he served as chairman of Dentsu Young & Rubicam, the Asian partnership between the two advertising firms.
The agency introduced a number of brands throughout his 50-year career, and it developed campaigns that were so well-known that they entered popular culture and were ingrained in people’s speech.
In addition to having an MBA and PhD from FMS Delhi, Goyal also attended Harvard Business School. Books about business, marketing, and advertising have been authored by him.
“These 50 years have been a dream run. I enjoyed every moment of client interactions, the strategy sessions, the creation of the campaigns and the launching of the brands, he said.
