Microsoft, a giant in the field of technology, laid off over 1,000 workers this week across many divisions, the latest in a long line of layoffs at leading computer firms.

This is the third round of layoffs the company has experienced since July. The corporation announced plans to reduce a handful of positions in July, affecting less than 1% of its whole workforce. As part of a routine restructuring, the large software maker fired close to 1% of its 180,000-person workforce across offices and product divisions in July.

“Today we had a small number of role eliminations. Like all companies, we evaluate our business priorities regularly, and make structural adjustments accordingly,” the company said in a statement.

The leading software company omitted a figure for the most recent round of layoffs. The internet giant, however, reportedly gave roughly 1,000 staff pink slips, according to the US-based news website Axios.

In recent months, facing escalating macroeconomic headwinds and a rising likelihood of recession, major tech businesses, including Twitter and Meta Platforms, have reduced staffing levels and halted new recruiting.

In a previous article, ET cited data obtained by Crunchbase to claim that, as of late July, more than 32,000 US tech industry professionals from Big Tech companies like Microsoft and Meta had been let go in a wave of layoffs.
