The Karnataka Power Corporations Limited (KPCL) has decided to set up an 11.5 MW waste to energy (WTE) plant in Bidadi, 32 km from Bengaluru in the next two years. Bidadi is tagged as the industrial hub, where giants like Toyota Motors operate. The cost of the plant will be Rs 260 crore and KPCL has clarified that the plant will have indigenous products and equipment.
According to KPCL, “the plant would need 600 tonnes of segregated waste on a daily basis to produce power,” a statement said.
Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa had directed KPCL to launch a project in terms of getting rid of around 600 tonnes segregated waste produced by the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP).
Construction of the WTE plant has been awarded to a Noida-based limited company, ISGEC Heavy Engineering Ltd along with its associate Hitachi Zosen India Pvt Ltd. They are known for their humongous experience as till now they have set up 900 WTE successfully running plants across the globe.
