Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed an audience in Tokyo on Friday (August 29, 2025) during his two-day official visit to Japan, where he held summit-level talks with Japanese counterpart Shigeru Ishiba.
In his remarks, Prime Minister Ishiba described India as a “key partner with common values,” stressing the growing integration of India and Japan’s supply chains. He noted that Japanese companies like Toyota and Suzuki are investing heavily in India, underscoring the strength of bilateral economic ties.
Prime Minister Modi, meanwhile, highlighted that the India-Japan partnership has made steady progress over the past 11 years, adding that this visit aims to “give new wings” to the collaboration. “We would expand the scope and ambition of our economic and investment ties, and advance cooperation in new and emerging technologies, including AI and semiconductors,” he said.
During the visit, Modi and Ishiba are expected to discuss a wide range of issues including a security agreement, business partnerships, and progress on the Mumbai–Ahmedabad bullet train project.
Following his Japan visit, Modi will travel to Tianjin, China, to attend the annual Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit on August 31 and September 1.
