The Appliances Business of Godrej Enterprises Group has launched a nationwide awareness campaign to spotlight a growing environmental risk—e-waste entering India’s food chain. Extending its long-running India v/s E-Waste initiative, the company has rolled out a new programme titled ‘The e-waste that we eat, but shouldn’t’.
The campaign uses stark visual storytelling, showcasing food items depicted with toxic electronic waste, to highlight how improperly discarded appliances and gadgets contaminate soil and groundwater and eventually reach the food we consume. Godrej is taking the message directly to students through workshops across 200+ schools and life-sized installations illustrating how discarded components re-enter ecosystems.
India generated nearly 1.3 million metric tonnes of e-waste in FY24–25, according to PIB. Globally, only 22.3% of e-waste was formally recycled in 2022, as per the UN’s Global E-Waste Monitor.
Godrej says the initiative aims to build early awareness about responsible disposal and reinforce its commitment to environment stewardship.
