The homegrown E-commerce company Flipkart said, on Tuesday, that they are planning to initiate 90-minute delivery services for a variety of things ranging from groceries to home accessories. The products delivered would be from local stores and fulfillment centers, said Flipkart.

Flipkart Quick, the hyperlocal service will also be delivering mobile phones, accessories and stationery items, giving an edge over the other delivery services which majorly deal in groceries.  Although the company would be beginning its services with grocery itself, considering the cut-throat competition emerging in the segment with companies like JioMart and the E-commerce giant Amazon.

“Halfway through the year of the pandemic, supply chains have transformed drastically”, said the company in  a statement. “The hyper local category, known for being a convenience for many, has now emerged to be a long-term essential service for the country”, said Flipkart in a statement, as reported by NDTV.

Economic Times has reported that the company will be taking the support of Shadowfax, the logistics startup for logistical support. It is also reported that Flipkart invested about $60 million in the B2B delivery platform last year.

The company would be beginning with the services from Bengaluru initially. However, the company did not mention a specific launch date. “The launch is a month away, but the long-term plan is to deliver everything in 90 minutes”, quoted Flipkart in a statement.

The Coronavirus pandemic has given a huge push to online sales and e-commerce startups. Thus, this situation might also set a suitable stage for the launch of Flipkart’s hyperlocal delivery arm.
