ExxonMobil Corporation on Tuesday announced that it has finalized the acquisition of the United States assets of Superior Graphite Co., a Chicago-based company specializing in thermal purification, advanced sizing, blending, and coating technologies using graphite and carbon.
As part of the deal, ExxonMobil will also acquire select international offices of Superior Graphite, strengthening its global footprint in advanced materials.
“This move marks a major milestone in our strategy to build a robust, synthetic graphite supply chain—right here in the US,” ExxonMobil said in a statement.
The oil and energy giant explained that it plans to leverage Superior Graphite’s proprietary technologies to accelerate its foray into electric vehicles (EVs) and battery energy storage systems (BESS). The acquisition is expected to give ExxonMobil a strategic edge in securing critical materials for the fast-growing clean energy and mobility sectors.
