According to the figures, there has been a rise in the number of jobs created, with 24,886 new businesses signing up for ESIC’s social security programme in May and placing their staff under its protection.

According to preliminary figures, the Employees’ State Insurance Corp., or ESIC-run social insurance programme, added more than 20.23 lakh new members in May.

Payroll data broken down by gender shows that 3.96 lakh women were enrolled in employment in May.

It is significant to remember that the payroll data is preliminary because the activity of data generation is continuous. ESIC is able to evaluate the effects of its programmes and policies, pinpoint areas for improvement, and guarantee the efficient implementation of these initiatives thanks to the ongoing monitoring and recording of employment numbers.

“Data evidently reveals that more jobs have been generated for the youth of the nation as out of the total 20.23 lakh employees added during the month of May, 2023, 9.40 lakh employees up to the age group of 25 years constitute the majority of new registrations which is 47% of the total employees,” the ministry of labour & employment said.

“The data shows that a total 71 transgender employees have also got registered under ESI Scheme in the month of May 2023. It shows that ESIC is committed to deliver its benefits to every section of the society,” it added.
