VA Tech WABAG (WABAG), a leading Indian multinational in water technology, has won a significant order worth INR 1,000 crore to develop a 100 million liters per day (MLD) sea water desalination plant for Indosol Solar’s Solar PV manufacturing facility in Andhra Pradesh. The plant will provide essential water security for the solar photovoltaic sector.
The project will be executed over a 38-month period and includes the full scope of engineering, procurement, installation, testing, and commissioning, followed by a 15-year operation and maintenance (O&M) contract. The plant is designed with advanced desalination technologies for superior energy efficiency, ensuring a sustainable water supply for Indosol Solar’s 10 GW integrated Solar PV manufacturing unit.
This order further strengthens WABAG’s position in the global desalination market, where it ranks among the top five desalination companies. WABAG has constructed over 60 desalination plants across 17 countries since 1995, serving municipalities and industries alike.
Commenting on the win, Saravanan Krishnan, Head of Desalination, India Cluster, said, “This mega order marks our entry into the Solar PV sector, which is pivotal for the future. WABAG’s technological expertise and competitive pricing helped us secure this project with the lowest life-cycle cost of water.”
WABAG’s commitment to water security and sustainability continues to expand as it provides customized water solutions globally, including for the growing renewable energy sector.
