TVS Motor Company, a global leader in two and three-wheeler mobility, has launched the ‘Wheels of Empowerment’ initiative in collaboration with SEWA, SIDBI, AMU Leasing, and NRDC. This program aims to empower women in rural India by promoting financial independence through entrepreneurship, leveraging electric vehicles for income generation.
With a vision of inclusive mobility, TVS is addressing the transportation challenges in rural India by providing affordable and sustainable electric two-wheelers. Currently, 26 TVS iQube electric scooters have been deployed, with plans to roll out an additional 100 in the next quarter and a total of 10,000 EVs over the next three years. SEWA and NRDC are driving demand across 21 states, engaging with women entrepreneurs to foster e-mobility adoption.
To make these EVs more accessible, the initiative includes concessional financing and risk-sharing models, bridging the affordability gap between electric and traditional fuel-based vehicles. TVS Motor Company is also conducting product demonstrations and technical training camps, equipping SEWA members with troubleshooting skills. An extended two-year warranty and bi-monthly rural service camps further enhance ownership ease and reliability.
Despite rural India contributing to 55% of the country’s two-wheeler sales, electric mobility remains largely untapped. However, early adopters have reported significant fuel savings, increased convenience, and better livelihood opportunities. With government support and policy backing, ‘Wheels of Empowerment’ is set to transform rural mobility while promoting sustainability and economic growth.
