Tembo Global Industries Limited has taken a decisive step into India’s fast-evolving defence manufacturing space after its subsidiary, Tembo Classic Engineering Private Limited, received a Defence Manufacturing Licence from the Government of Maharashtra.

Tembo Classic Engineering Private Limited, formerly known as Tembo Defence Products Private Limited, operates as a wholly owned subsidiary of Tembo Global Industries Limited. With the licence now in hand, the company is set to move forward with plans to establish a small arms manufacturing facility in Maharashtra, strengthening its long-term presence in the domestic defence ecosystem.

The licence follows a Memorandum of Understanding signed with the Government of Maharashtra during the **World Economic Forum 2025 in Davos. The agreement outlines the development of a dedicated manufacturing unit in collaboration with **Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC), Mumbai. This proposed facility is expected to play a meaningful role in boosting indigenous defence production while aligning with national priorities.

The upcoming manufacturing unit is designed to support flagship government initiatives such as Make in India and Aatmanirbhar Bharat. Beyond defence self-reliance, the project is also expected to contribute to employment generation, technology advancement, and the strengthening of India’s domestic defence supply chain at a time when localisation is becoming increasingly critical.

Commenting on the development, Managing Director Sanjay J. Patel described the licence as a strong validation of the company’s capabilities and long-term vision in the defence sector. According to the company, the approval enables Tembo Classic Engineering to move decisively toward building a world-class small arms manufacturing facility in Maharashtra, with a clear focus on quality, compliance, and innovation.
