Tata Steel has inaugurated the Phase II expansion of its Kalinganagar steel plant in Odisha, increasing its crude steel production capacity from 3 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) to 8 MTPA. The inauguration took place at the plant site in Jajpur district.
The event was attended by Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, state government ministers including Pradeep Bal Samanta and Sampad Chandra Swain, Member of Parliament Dr. Rabindra Narayan Behera, Tata Steel CEO and MD T. V. Narendran, and other officials.
The expanded facility includes a new blast furnace, which is the largest in India with a volume of 5,870 cubic meters. This furnace features modern technologies aimed at improving efficiency and reducing environmental impact. It uses four top combustion stoves—the first such installation in India—along with two preheating stoves designed to optimize fuel consumption during hot metal production.
Additional additions as part of the Phase II expansion are a Pellet Plant, Coke Plant, and Cold Rolling Mill. These facilities incorporate advanced technologies focused on sustainability and operational efficiency.
Tata Steel Kalinganagar serves multiple sectors such as defense, automotive, infrastructure, engineering, capital goods, oil and gas, renewable energy, and shipbuilding.
