Tata Power has added another major project to its transmission portfolio after receiving a Letter of Intent (LOI) from REC Power Development and Consultancy Limited, a subsidiary of REC Limited. The LOI covers the acquisition and development of Jejuri Hinjewadi Power Transmission Limited, a special purpose vehicle (SPV) created for this project.
The upcoming transmission project will be executed on a Build–Own–Operate–Transfer (BOOT) model and is designed to strengthen power evacuation and reliability between Jejuri and Hinjewadi—two important nodes in Maharashtra’s power network. Once the SPV is transferred, the project will move toward its Scheduled Commercial Operation Date (SCOD), which is targeted 24 months from the effective date.
At the core of the project is the construction of nearly 115 km of 400 kV double-circuit transmission lines, along with extending 400 kV GIS line bays at both Jejuri and Hinjewadi substations. These upgrades are expected to enhance power flow capacity and support the region’s growing industrial and urban load.
As per the LOI, Tata Power will operate the transmission assets for 35 years under a Transmission Service Agreement, earning annual transmission charges of ₹155.78 crore. With the order awarded by a domestic entity and no related-party involvement, the project fits squarely within Tata Power’s strategy of expanding its presence in India’s high-voltage transmission segment.
