Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL), a leading player in India’s renewable energy sector and a subsidiary of Tata Power, has secured a significant project from the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL). The project involves the development of a 400 MW wind-solar hybrid project in Maharashtra, marking TPREL’s largest renewable energy project in the state to date.
The project, awarded through a competitive bidding process via an electronically-based reverse auction, includes an original contracted capacity of 200 MW, with an additional 200 MW under the Greenshoe Option. This initiative is a part of MSEDCL’s plan to meet Maharashtra’s Renewable Purchase Obligations (RPO) and cater to the state’s increasing power demands with competitive tariffs.
The project is expected to be completed within 24 months of signing the Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) between TPREL and MSEDCL. Once operational, the project will contribute significantly to reducing carbon emissions, with an estimated reduction of 895 million kilograms of CO2 annually. The hybrid project, which integrates solar and wind energy, will supply sustainable power to MSEDCL, boosting the renewable energy portfolio of Maharashtra and supporting the state’s transition to a low-carbon future.
This latest achievement boosts TPREL’s total renewable energy capacity to 10.5 GW, with 5.7 GW of projects in various stages of implementation. Its current operational capacity stands at 4.8 GW, consisting of 3.8 GW of solar and 1 GW of wind energy projects.
Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited is dedicated to developing cutting-edge renewable energy projects and offering comprehensive green energy solutions. This latest project reflects TPREL’s ongoing commitment to driving India’s renewable energy transition, reinforcing its position as a key player in the industry.
