Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL), a subsidiary of Tata Power and a key player in India’s renewable energy sector, has signed a non-binding Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC). This strategic collaboration aims to explore opportunities in the Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) value chain, strengthening India’s energy transition efforts.
The MoU was signed at India Energy Week 2025, witnessed by Shri Hardeep Singh Puri, Hon’ble Union Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas, and top executives from ONGC and TPREL. This partnership focuses on various BESS applications, including utility-scale projects, grid stabilization, renewable integration, microgrids, EV charging, hybrid energy solutions, and energy trading through ancillary services.
By joining forces, TPREL and ONGC reaffirm their commitment to sustainable energy solutions, aligning with India’s ambitious renewable energy targets. This collaboration leverages TPREL’s expertise in large-scale BESS projects, including India’s largest Solar + BESS project—a 100 MW solar PV plant with a 120 MWh battery storage system in Rajnandgaon, Chhattisgarh.
Deepesh Nanda, CEO & Managing Director, TPREL, stated, “This partnership with ONGC marks a significant milestone in our journey to drive India’s energy transition. Battery Energy Storage Systems will play a crucial role in strengthening grid reliability, enabling greater renewable energy integration, and supporting India’s ambitious clean energy goals. Together, we aim to develop innovative storage solutions that will pave the way for a sustainable and resilient energy future”.
