Tata Communications has strengthened its global technology play with a strategic move into advanced AI-led customer experience platforms. Its wholly owned subsidiary, Tata Communications (Netherlands) B.V., has acquired a 51 percent stake in Commotion Inc., a fast-growing US-based artificial intelligence solutions company. The deal, valued at about USD 25.5 million (around ₹227 crore), was completed on December 1, 2025 (Central Time, USA).
Commotion Inc., founded in 2022, builds proprietary software that helps enterprises deliver intelligent, real-time, deeply personalised customer interactions across digital touchpoints. Its AI-driven engine powers Voice AI, omnichannel customer experience automation, and autonomous digital agents, enabling organisations to streamline engagement, automate complex workflows, and innovate at scale. The company has a presence in the United States and operates a subsidiary in India, offering enterprise-focused solutions tailored for global clients.
For the 12 months ending December 31, 2024, Commotion Inc. reported revenues of USD 118,750 (approximately ₹1.06 crore). Even at its early stage, the company’s niche capabilities in agentic AI and digital orchestration have positioned it as a compelling partner for businesses aiming to transform their customer experience architecture.
The acquisition aligns closely with Tata Communications’ strategy to deepen its Customer Interaction Suite portfolio. By integrating Commotion’s AI engine, Tata Communications aims to deliver more advanced, end-to-end customer engagement solutions that combine automation, hyper-personalisation, and real-time decision-making.
The investment includes a mix of stock purchase from existing shareholders and fresh capital infusion into the company. Out of the total USD 25.5 million, roughly USD 15.5 million is being used to buy shares from founders and investors, while another USD 10 million is flowing directly into the company as growth capital.
