Suzlon Group has signed a significant 400 MW captive wind power deal with Jindal Renewables to support decarbonization efforts in steel production. The project, set to be the largest commercial and industrial (C&I) wind energy order in India, involves the installation of 127 state-of-the-art wind turbine generators (WTGs) in the Koppal region of Karnataka. These turbines, each with a rated capacity of 3.15 MW, will provide electricity for Jindal’s steel plants in Chhattisgarh and Odisha.
The collaboration is seen as a key step towards reducing the carbon footprint of steel production while aligning with India’s ambitious net-zero goals by 2070. The wind power generated through this partnership is expected to bolster sustainability in the hard-to-abate steel industry. With this new order, Suzlon’s cumulative order book reaches 5.4 GW.
This marks the first wind energy project for Jindal Group’s renewable energy division, further advancing India’s clean energy transition.
