Star Health and Allied Insurance, India’s largest standalone retail health insurer, has reinforced its position as Karnataka’s most trusted health insurance partner, showcasing robust growth and exemplary customer service across the state. Over the last five financial years (FY21–FY25), the company has settled more than 4.8 lakh claims in Karnataka, disbursing over Rs. 2,800 crore to policyholders.

At a national level, Star Health continues to dominate the retail health insurance sector, having settled over 1 crore claims since its inception, amounting to more than Rs. 52,000 crore in payouts. With a market share of around 33% in retail health insurance as of FY25-end, and a strong solvency ratio of 2.2 times—well above the regulatory minimum—the company ensures policyholders can rely on prompt and secure claim settlements, even during peak periods.

Expanding Reach and Digital Footprint

Star Health’s customer-first approach is reflected in its rapidly growing digital presence. The company’s mobile app has crossed 11 million downloads, making claim processing and policy management seamless for customers. Its physical network in Karnataka includes 71 branches, supported by over 55,000 agents and 1,100 network hospitals that process 93% of cashless claims. The company currently holds a 31% market share in Karnataka’s retail health insurance segment, covering over 19 lakh lives in the state.

Claims Performance in FY25

In FY25 alone, Star Health settled more than 1.13 lakh claims worth over Rs. 650 crore. Bengaluru accounted for the highest share with claims exceeding Rs. 440 crore, followed by Mysuru at Rs. 40 crore, Mangaluru at Rs. 30 crore, and both Shivamogga and Hassan at Rs. 21 crore each. Over the five-year period, orthopaedics and trauma, cardiology, COVID-19, gastroenterology, and carcinoma were the leading treatment categories, totaling over 1.7 lakh claims and Rs. 1,590 crore in payouts.

Innovating Healthcare Accessibility

Star Health goes beyond insurance with wellness programs, free tele-consultations, and Home Healthcare (HHC) services in Karnataka. Between April and August 2025, the company conducted 2,500 telemedicine and HHC consultations, offering cashless doorstep medical care within three hours with no out-of-pocket expenses. HHC services are currently available in Bangalore, Mangalore, Mysore, Tumkur, Shimoga, Udupi, and Hubli, improving accessibility, availability, and affordability of healthcare across the state.
