SJVN has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Chhattisgarh and Chhattisgarh State Power Generation Company Limited (CSPGCL) to develop a 1800 MW Pumped Storage Project (PSP) at Kotpali, Balrampur District. This major step will strengthen India’s energy security and accelerate the transition to sustainable power solutions.
The MoU was signed by Sushil Kumar Sharma (Director, Projects, SJVN), Subodh Kumar Singh (Principal Secretary, Energy Department, Chhattisgarh), and Sanjeev Kumar Katiyar (Managing Director, CSPGCL) in the presence of Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Dev Sai, Shri Lakhan Lal Dewangan (Minister of Commerce & Industry), and other senior officials.
With increasing dependence on solar and wind energy, Pumped Storage Projects (PSPs) play a crucial role in stabilizing the power grid. These projects store excess energy during non-peak hours and release it during peak demand, ensuring uninterrupted electricity supply.
The ₹9500 crore investment in the Kotpali PSP will drive economic growth, create 5000 direct and indirect job opportunities, and enhance the renewable energy capacity of Chhattisgarh. Designed as an off-stream closed-loop system, the project will generate around 3967 MU of clean energy annually.
This initiative aligns with India’s commitment to green energy and sustainable development, making Chhattisgarh a hub for renewable power.
